Authors note: Greek mythology interesting in with all the crazy stories and myths

The character Poseidon was  helpful and not helpful in the story of the Trojan Horse. Something he did that benefited the War was that he helped the Spartans bring the Trojan horse to the Trojans territory and trick them into an ambush.

Also another thing he did that benefitted the War that was good and bad in its own way was that whenever someone tried to leave the island to go to Greek, he would send them back.  In the actual story, it seemed to me that he didn’t talk to anyone on the island or anything. He was an outsider, or in a way, a guard.

Hero`s Don`t Run

The story Heroes Don’t Run, by Harry Mazer, is about a boy named Adam who wants to go fight in the Pacific War and has to disobey his mother in order to go. The main character, Adam, changes in many ways as he prepares for, and then goes to, war.

At the beginning, he was an average boy who wanted to live his dream of fighting in the war. Now he got to go and actually do something that he has always has dreamed of, and that’s being able to go fight in the Pacific war. While he was there, what he really wanted to do was make his mother, family, friends, his past away father proud, and also himself proud.

In addition Adam felt like it was something that had to be done. His family says he is always nice and caring, his friends say he is always a good guy. Adam could be a role model in ways to older and younger people who will read this book.

I think he has influenced others to take pride in what you believe and If you have a dream, always go your hardest to achieve it. And also I think he motivates others to live to their fullest and he really shows how to be courageous and a nice person over all.

I think over all that Even though Adam did break his mothers rules and that’s not something that wasn’t right of him. But over all he did it for a great cause and that’s fighting for his country.

Trojan Horse

.     One of the conflicts the Trojans went through was they couldn`t leave the Trojan beach so they made a sacrifice from  the kings daughter.

      

I think something that made this story so sneaky was how the girl was married to someone and ran off with another prince which started the war.

I don’t think this would happen nowadays because people know better and there are more consequences these days and people won`t take it to heart to the point where the start a war. They know even though it’s a big deal for them they shouldn’t overreact to something like that.

.I think it was all overreached, I can understand the prince was mad about his wife leaving him but to start a war over it? I don’t think it should of went that far. I also thought it was interesting how Poseidon would not let them leave the beach, that was one of the most interesting parts for me.

Heroes Don`t Run

Authors note: this book is a good book for those young readers that are thinking about going to the fight for our country.

The story talks about how a boy named Adam (good kid good student) who wanted to go the war so bad he disobeyed his mothers rules. Instead of going when his mom wanted him to go at age 18 he went earlier. Ever since his dad went and fought and died in pearl harbor he wanted to make him proud. Of course he did a bad thing and didn’t listen to his mom but it was for a good cause.

First of all, in the story Heroes Don’t Run, the author doesn’t only talk about the character he also talks a lot about the Pacific War. They talk about how the book and this character Relate to the actual war and one person that Adam acts like. 

Second, The main plot of this story is that Adam and his mother are talking about how he disobeyed his mother when he moved in with his grandfather and went off to the war. He says he very much apologizes for what he did to his mom and lied but he didn’t want to wait no more. His is always keeping her updated and aware of what is going on.  This story is talking about an individual that went to the Pacific War and how he did through it. In the story they pretty much mixed it up between fiction and non-fiction.

 One aspect of the story that is true to the time period is what is going on during training camp. It is true where it is placed and right around the time period of when they were fighting in the pacific war. Some of the main scenes in the story for example, like the more action parts and time period, they got the cites right and time and date but the character and his family or fiction to the story.

As you can see, when this book came out in 2005, it probably changed some people`s  mind about the war and what they thought about it. How much work and courage it took to go out there and fight for your country. I can see how it changed people’s minds in the story because it changed mine too. And it shows young readers that it’s a very good thing to fight for your country and encourages then to fight in the army too. 

A Clean, Well Lighted Place

I think they should have had more screenshots and more action. I can understand why they had everything so slow the way they did in this film because it isn’t supposed to be action packed because its not that kind of film but I got lost in it most of the way. They really say the same with the script and the film, I don’t think this film and the script departs much at all. But in the film it seems more longer and more boring in the film then in the script.

Monster!

The book I am doing is called Monster! It is about a boy whose life turns around in a terrible way and all he is thinking is what did he do wrong? He always grew up good nothing bad or any problems really.

First of all the main starting point of this story was he was framed for being a look out for a robbery that he had no idea of and now he is in jail for it.

In addition, He was taken to prison for a little bit and had multiple court dates to find out what happened.

Likewise, I don’t think he would still be ending up going to jail. This whole situation is crazy “ he thinks to himself” and he hopes the court believes. This whole situation thing about him being the “look out” for the robbery did not involve him.

Finally his lawyer and him talk in front of the jury and pleads Steve not guilty. Furthermore Steve goes to the stand and talks about  how he did not do it and that he had no idea of what went on with the robbery. He asks the court to believe him. They bring in the people who did he robbery and they say he was not the guy they were accusation with in this robbery. The court makes the decision of him being not guilty, Thank you Steve says.

The Thirsty Grass

Authors note: The poem " Summer grass" is a good poem with such as good figurative language and it really hits your soft spot.



The poem “Summer Grass” by Carl Sandburg uses a lot of figurative language to explain how the grass wishes for rain but does not receive any. In this poem Carl Sandburg uses personification and metaphors. I think this poem's  figurative language gave me a good image of the field of grass.


To begin with the poem creates a tone of sadness because the grass is wishing to the overhead stars for rain, but is not getting any. The grass is thirsty, it is aching and whispering but none comes. This is personification because the grass says it aches and whispers and it gives a human quality to the grass.

Another sentence that has figurative language in the poem is, "pouring out wishes to the overhead stars." This sentence is a metaphor. It is a metaphor because it is comparing two completely different things such as " the grass and the overhead stars", they are two things of complete different natures. 

  

 This poem will usually hit the readers soft spot and it persuades or hooks the reader to want to help. The grasses wishes aren't coming true, no one can hear the grass ache and whisper out to anyone so the grass has to wait thirsty and hot for possible water to come.  

This could lead to the point where we have a healthy earth and all of our plants are healthy instead of dirty and all of our plants are dead. We can do so much and help keep the world healthy. This poem can be an inspiration to others on a fresh clean yard or field so everything could be cut and watered. And in the poem is says the grass is asking for water but none comes because it is not raining or no one comes.

Author’s Note: This is an essay comparing and contrasting Steve’s parents in the book Monster by Walter Dean Meyer.

The book Monster, by Walter Dean Meyer, is about a boy who committed a crime and is now paying off for it.  Steve was claimed of being a look out for a robbery for which he was framed for and is in jail having court dates to see if he is guilty or not. Steve’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harmon, are very different, but the same in many ways.

In the novel, people say that he was one of the people who was involved in the robbery and was the lookout for them when they committed the crime. The court is debating on to let him go, or send him to jail for either 25 years to life.While he`s been in jail his fear of everything has stopped,he says there is nothing out there that can be as terrifying as the stuff he has heard, seen in jail. In this novel, Steve has realized that even though he knows he didn’t do it that he will be good and do good things so good thing will maybe happen to him. He would never do that to Mr. Nesbit (the owner of the store).

Mr. and Mrs. Harmon (Steve’s parents) are very calm and are being very helpful to their son Steve, They are on his side on the investigation because they know that he wouldn’t do that and he knows better. When things with their son come up about thing like this they will help him and they will always be there for him do anything to help him.

Another similarity is their desire to fix these problems.  To solve all these problems, Mr. and Mrs. Harmon going to fix them by is getting him a good lawyer and backing him up in this because they don’t want to see him go down this way, they know he didn’t do it but everyone else doesn’t. When Mr. and Mrs. Harmon do have similar is that when it comes to their son they know write to wrong and they know how he is.

Things that make Mr. and Mrs. Harmon different are emotional differences, they both take it hard but Mrs. Harmon takes it worse. Other difference`s they have are the ways they handle the problem and what they each do the same but separately to fix the problem. They both teach Steve different things, his dad teaches him to stand up for himself and never back down from anything to anyone and always have pride. His mom usually teaches him stuff like always clean up for yourself and make sure things are clean.

The King

This man I am talking about is one of the most dedicated, hard working and one of the best  athlete at what he does. He went through some bad times as a kid, didn’t know his Father and wasn’t that wealthy. The only person he had was his mom, she worked multiple jobs at times to support her and her son. The King was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. He played basketball for his school team called the St. Vincent Fighting Irish.

"The King was in charge of all his team" worked his way all the way up to where he is now from playing hard in basketball. What he also did was working hard and good in school because he wanted to do something he loved for a living and he wanted to do good and make his mom and everyone else that was supporting him proud. Now he is a former last year world champion of the NBA.

Conflict/ Resolution

The book i am talking about is the book called Monster! It is about a boy named Steve. He committed a crime and has to pay the time for it. From Steves point of view i feel bad for him and wish he wasnt in this situation, but i think i would feel the same way it was in the victims point of view. He is going through a rough time in jail right now and he is trying to stay strong through everything that is going on but he it really sorry and upset for what hes done. He has been in jail for a while now, the case is taking a while and they are having lots of court dates and new dates. Steve and the rest of his side are hoping to be accepted as not guilty, but if he is guilty then he will be serving 25 years to life! 

I predict Steve and his side will win the case and be not guilty for what he did because it wasnt even him, he was just with the people that did it. But i am also torn because if he actually is lieing and it was all him then i think he should get a couple of months, i dont think they shld go that overboard as to put him away that long, but hopefully my perdiction it right and the resolution to this is not guilty, and he can go on with his life. 

Authors note: This is my point of view piece about the perspective of Steve in the book Monster by Walter Dean Meyers.

Monster, by Walter Dean Meyers, is about a boy named Steve who robbed a lady and is going to jail for it. He is getting sent court dates about his crimes and there is a possibility that he could go to jail for 25 years or a life sentence for the crime he committed. As he`s been in jail he`s been thinking about his life and that he feels bad for what he did and he`s sorry for what he did to that lady.

If I was in Steve`s position I would be very upset, of course he did a bad thing and he does have to pay the consequences. But the things that they`re saying they`re going to do to them isn’t right. The crime he did does not deserve 25 years to life that’s just not right, I would not agree with that statement. The book is very confusing but some of the parts like when he says he cry`s himself to sleep and nothing pretty much scares him anymore compared to going to sleep thinking if he will be ok, or will someone break in his cell and kill him, he doesn’t know but he pretty much says to himself whatever happens, happens and that’s how it`s going to go.

If I were in Steve`s position I think I would try my best to get out of my trouble. I would go up to the lady I hurt and tell her am deeply sorry I am and how bad I feel, but if I got bad consequences then I would pay it off for what I did because that’s what I deserve. I think Steve should tell the lady who called him a Monster “the lady he hurt” and say he shall pay for his reckless destruction and give her a deep apology . Also I  honestly I think he deserves a little bit of time for what he did but nowhere near 25 years – to life.    

Compare/ Contrast

Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan was always one of the best basketball players growing up as a kid. He was a smaller kid when he was growing up and his biggest dream was to make it to the big leagues. A lot of people told him he couldn’t do it and he always said to himself “yes I can” and yes he did. Michael would just make the people that doubted him his motivation. He set out a dream and he got it. He told himself that no one can stop him from pursuing his dreams and that’s what he did, everyone told him he couldn’t do it but he did.

Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali was a smaller kid growing up. A lot of other kids would pick on him throughout his life and his family was very poor. After he started getting older he got sick of it and older adult “former fighter” told him that he can train him for free and the boxing gym. As Muhammad Ali got older he wouldn’t take bully`s or people saying he couldn`t do things in life and he showed them up and did it. Muhammad just thought about all the people that told him he could not do it his motivation and he went out there and did it. Another thing that made him a better fighter, he wanted to have his family wealthy and have money and live good because he could stand seeing his parents in hard times like that.
